Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October 1964, is an American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is both the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in the United America. A part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general for California from 2011 until 2017 and was an United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then appointed to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she won re-election. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and advocated for healthcare reform as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She was well-known for her direct questioning of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
